Creating a future based on your passions and skills is liberating, but bringing it to fruition takes real dedication, especially when you face the inevitable bumps that entrepreneurs encounter. But let’s not let a little adversity stand in the way of building an exciting, passion-filled career and life! Here are three easy and powerful tips to keep you focused and help make your dream a reality.
Set daily intentions
The quickest way to get off track is to set out with only the “big picture” plan. Much like a road trip, knowing only your starting and ending points is not enough information to navigate from Point A to Point B successfully. To reach your destination, you need to break down the route: what roads will you take, how far will you drive each day, and what will you do along the way?
Entrepreneurship is similar. Once you set your main goal, you need to break it down into a series of bite-sized steps. Let’s say your challenge is to create an ebook on nutrition. Focusing on the massive task of creating an entire ebook may seen overwhelming. Instead, make a to-do list that focuses on the specific steps that you need to take to reach your target. For this particular ebook, you can break it down to daily goals such as a certain number of pages to write or a number of recipes you’ll test.
You will find that once you string together a few daily successes, envisioning the attainment of your ultimate goal becomes much clearer and more exciting!
Create a daily ritual
As we all know, it’s easy to get distracted by the tasks that seem most urgent. (It’s also easy to get distracted by the things aren’t urgent at all.)
When you are constantly putting out fires, you may find that you are putting off essential tasks that need to be performed daily. Activities such as checking email and responding to messages may get put on the back burner because they seem mundane or non-essential, but they aren’t! Neither is grabbing lunch or going off the clock at some point in the evening. Create a checklist and a daily ritual that focuses on important tasks. For example, you can begin your work day at a set time every morning with a cup of a coffee and an email check . This helps you to get centered and motivated to make your day as productive as possible.
Make time for daily review
When working to build your business day-by-day, you may find that you have veered off-course at some point. At the end of each day, take a step back and review: Did I accomplish what I planned? Am I happy with the choices I made? What will I do differently tomorrow?
